“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel” (Isa. 7:14). “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of
Peace” (Isa. 9:6).
What a wonderful event to celebrate
the fulfillment of the promise of God to all mankind—the Son of God was
given to be our Saviour! He was born to a virgin named Mary. She named Him
Jesus because Gabriel, the angel of God, had instructed her to. The prophecies
of old were fulfilled in the new. “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent
forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law” (Gal. 4:4).
Heaven witnessed this glorious event and the story is
given in the book of Luke: “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field,
keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came
upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore
afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring
you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is
born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And
this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling
clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude
of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels
were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us
now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the
Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and
Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known
abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child” (Luke 2:8-17).
The shepherds believed and were inspired to tell others of the Christ
child. We know our time is short to work so let us be inspired to tell others
about Jesus, the Saviour of the world.
God bless you and your families is my prayer.
